Speciality Tints

For some people, light can be more than an annoyance. Glare, fluorescent or flickering lights, reflections and even patterns on a page can cause visual discomfort, headaches, eye strain, light sensitivity or difficulty maintaining focus.
At Mortdale Eyecare, we offer individually selected speciality tints designed to help make vision more comfortable for people experiencing these symptoms.
We assess how your eyes respond to different colours and tint densities, including FL-41, blue and Avulux, and can trial the tint during reading, screen use, distance vision and everyday activities. This allows us to find the option that provides the most comfortable visual experience for you.
Speciality tints may be considered for people experiencing migraine, concussion, acquired brain injury, stroke, photophobia, pattern glare and other conditions associated with increased light sensitivity.
Our experience
We have seen some very encouraging results in our practice. Over four years, 72 patients trialled speciality tints, with 50 choosing to purchase tinted spectacles after experiencing an improvement in their symptoms. In our review of 50 patient records, 96% were recorded as having a successful response.
Patients have told us
“I can read for longer without the headaches and visual fatigue.”
“The glare is reduced and everything feels much more comfortable.”
“It has made such a difference to my concentration and ability to read.”
Every person responds differently, which is why we don't take a one-tint-fits-all approach. We test, trial and tailor the tint to you.
Speciality tints are prescribed following an individual assessment and are intended to improve visual comfort and function. They do not treat the underlying medical or neurological condition, and results vary between individuals.
